What is Cardamom?
Cardamom is the Queen of Spices because of its pleasant aroma. (Then which is the King of Spices? It is Black Pepper!!)


This is how the cardamom and its flowers will be, before plucking from the plant.
Cardamom is plucked from the plant, cleaned and dried and sold.

Where Cardamom Grows?
Guatemala is the biggest producer and exporter of Cardamom. It produces around 30,000 tonsevery year.

Cardamom is native to India, Nepal, Pakistan and bhutan. It was introduced in Guatemala only 1914.

The top three expensive spices are SAFFRON, VANILLA and CARDAMOM.

Even though all the trees and plants need direct sunlight, cardamom will not grow in direct sunlight. It will grow only under shadow, normally below big trees.

Health benefits

Blood pressure: Cardamom contains a volatile oil. It will depress cardia rhythm and regulates blood pressure.
Anestetic: It acts as a sedative and it can reduce the amount of pain.
Good for Bad Breath : As the cardamom is an armatic spice, it eliminates bad breath.
Gastro: It cures lesions in the gastrointestinal tract and cures digestive disorders.
Expectorant: it thin phlegm and regulates the flow of sputum along the airway.
Antiseptic: It works as antiseptic.

New Inventions : 

  • Sebastian Joseph , a farmer from Kattapana in Kerala invented a new high yielding cardamom variety called as "Njallani" 


Benefits of Importing Cardamom 
from India:


  • Cardamom is mainly used for flavouring food.
  • Cardamom will grow only in certain countries like India,Guatamala .
  • Importing cardamom from India will be cheap when compared to importing from  other countries.
  • Cardamon as a consumer good gives less return. But if it is imported as a raw material (for the industry like aromatic candle,instant sticks,room freshners,scents and some essential oils), the return will be very high.
